A CMS (Content Management System) is an essential tool for owners of e- commerce sites. This helps in maintaining and updating the sites. There are various types of CMS in the market. Some may be highly efficient and some may not be so. A perfect CMS can be decided based on the time it takes or updating and maintaining a website. Here are some of the things to be considered before choosing a CMS for your website.
- Prime Task: One has to decide the prime task of his website whether it is a static or a fully – functioning site or a blog. Defining the prime task of your website helps in selecting the CMS appropriately. This CMS must have to be well versed in the task for which our website is created.
- Intuitive Site: The backend users of the website must find it easy to do their tasks well. Creating a new page, adding content and uploading images must be easy with the CMS. All the elements of the website must be very simple to figure out even for an average user.
- Standard Format: A perfect Content Management System must have a fixed and standard format for all the backing activities on a website. If a particular section is designed with a drop- down menu for selecting options, all the other sections must be designed in the similar way. This avoids confusion while using.
- Organization: There must be a logical order in the placing of backend processes like themes, sidebars and plug-ins in the CMS. All aspects relating to a particular page or section must be available in one place.
- Extra Functions: A CMS must be compact. There must not be a large amount of extra functionalities at the backend. Most of the functional aspects will be never used by the owners as well as the clients of the site. These functions can be avoided while designing.
- Easy for Beginners: Even if a person is not well versed in using the backend applications, he must be able to manage with some basic things. The CMS must suit beginners too and it must not always require a tech savvy to operate the site.
- WYSIWYG Editor: Clients will find it very easy to use the website with a WYSIWYG editor as most of them are not aware of HTML editors. A simple cut, copy, paste or resizing bars need not require HTML codes all the time.
- Fast and Simple: A CMS must enable the e-commerce site to load faster. Fast loading sites will have larger views and the content must be designed in a simple way. The main purpose of developing a website can be solved even if the site is simply designed.
- Creativity: The template engine of the CMS must allow the users to control the site with greater creativity. Not everything must be fixed and rigid. There must be little flexibility in the website.
- Support: A perfect CMS must be completely supported by documentation. This helps in handling future problems easily.
